Happy New Year! Welcome to 2020!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

WELCOME TO 2020!

We are so very proud of our Fifth Grade Students for participating in these very meaningful charity research projects.

5th Grade Charity Finalists
The Lincoln 5th Grade participated in a charity research project to raise money over the winter break through a Read-a-Thon. Over the past two weeks, students have been researching a charity of their choice and then wrote a persuasive essay to convince their classmates where the money should be donated to. On Wednesday, December 18th, students presented their essays to their own homeroom class and had their first round votes. The top two students were selected to present their charity in front of the entire grade on Friday, December 20th. These eight students spent many hours creating a Google Slides presentation full of information about their charity and why their charity should be chosen. All eight students did a fabulous job presenting their charity and in the end, Riley Newman's charity, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, won! Over the winter break, students calculated how many pages they read and using their sponsors to earn money for this amazing charity. We can't wait to see how much money will be earned and how much reading our fifth graders do!

MLK Day of Service - January 19, 2020

On Sunday, January 19th, in collaboration with Winchester Public Schools, the Network for Social Justice will host a Day of Service, supported by Winchester High School students from Connect and Commit and other committed students. Between 10 am – 2 pm, the community is invited to Winchester High School to participate in a drive to support under-resourced local families through donations to the Woburn Council of Social Concern; engage young activists committed to social, political, and environmental justice; and attend service learning break-out sessions on composting, Amnesty International, LGBTQIA+ issues, vegetarian/vegan cooking, and more. The Day of Service is going to be accessible to the whole family, and will include a service fair, speeches, outreach tables, and some art projects for kids of all ages.

Please see the link to the Network's website for more details on the event.
