Book Mark Contest
Thank you to all the students who participated in this year’s Bookmark Contest with the theme: “My School Library is Awesome because...”. 96 students participated and 9 were chosen to send to the statewide competition. These students include:
From the First Grade:
Aya Bernstein and Zoe Morse, both in Mrs. Nagle’s class
and Benjamin Spicer in Mrs. Kennedy’s class
From the Second and Third Grade:

In honor of these 9 students, copies of their bookmarks will be available sometime next week so that all students will receive one. Here is a sneak preview of the 9 bookmarks below.
Congratulations to these 9 individuals, but more importantly, thank you to everyone who participated. We will have an amazing display of your beautiful bookmarks posted in the library soon.
Genre Projects
From Grade 5 - Ms. Wallace
"One
of the most valuable (and enjoyable!) things you can do as a reader is dabble
in different genres. Although it is nice
to read what interests you, limiting yourself to only one type of book can
narrow your reading experiences and get very BORING! It is very
important to explore different genres to get a taste of all that is out
there. Who knows, you may even find a
new favorite!" Ms. Tricia Wallace, Grade 5
Students in Tricia Wallace's fifth grade are learning about different types of literature through monthly genre book projects. Each month features a new genre and related creative project. In December, students explored different types of folklore. They read various myths in small groups and worked together to summarize the story. Following this in-class group work, students were given several weeks to complete a "Peek-A-Boo" poster project. Each student was asked to re-write the myth from the perspective of one of the characters in the story and construct a poster featuring that character with a spot for his/her face to peek through! Students shared their work with one another, taking on the persona of these characters and reading their summaries. Here are a few photos of the final products! They did a fantastic job!!!
Waste Free Day at Lincoln School ~ next Monday, Feb. 1st
The Lincoln School Green Team is planning a Waste Free Day at Lincoln for next Monday, Feb. 1st and we are asking all Lincoln School members to try to pack snacks and lunches that generate trash as little waste as possible - preferably none! The Lincoln School Green Team is encouraging everyone to use as many reusable containers as possible. For example, if you bring food in plastic baggies, please consider returning the baggies home to be reused. Other suggestions for your consideration include: using a thermos; reusable water bottle; reusable lunch bags; packing snacks that do not have a lot of packaging; etc. Please talk about it with your family, we bet you can think of many more ways to have a zero waste lunch and snack.
We recognize that students getting school lunch will be limited in what they can do - but we are asking for everyone’s extra efforts to recycle properly and return any unopened food items to the lunch counter if they came from a school lunch.
We conducted a “surprise” lunch trash audit on Monday, Jan. 25th and we will be conducting another trash audit on the Waste Free Day - next Monday, Feb. 1st. The student Green Team will be compiling data comparing the 2 audits to share with the entire school. Please join us in being Waste Free next Monday, Feb. 1st.

Lincoln Sweat Shirts are on sale each morning before school in front of the school library!
We are selling both youth and adult sizes. If we do not have the size you are looking for, simply fill out an order form, and we will place your order. Youth sizes are $35.00, and Adult sizes are $40.00. All proceeds will go towards running our school store and creating a school news paper. We hope to purchase a cabinet in the near future that will contain all of the sweatshirts, T-shirts and other school supplies we will be selling. Our intention is for the school store to be a valuable learning experience for students in all grades. The upper grade students will also work with lower grade students to make change, count and more.

Raffle Tickets are on sale this week and next! The last day to purchase tickets will be on Thursday, February 4.
Students in grades 4, 5 have been volunteering to sell tickets before and after school this week and next!
Fifth Grade Morning Announcers will announce the names chosen from K - 2, and 3 - 5 on Friday, February 5, 2016.
Don't forget to purchase your raffle tickets! 1 ticket = $2.00, 5 tickets = $8.00, and 10 tickets = $15.00
