Why It Is Important to Celebrate Veteran's Day
By Ellen Stewart
Veterans Day, in the USA, is on November 11, marking the day an armistice came into effect in between Germany and the Allied Nations in 1918. An armistice is a truce 2 opposing sides make in order to pause a war. In 1918 World War 1 officially ended. The United States Congress  declared that the anniversary of the armistice should be commemorated with a prayer and thanksgiving in 1926. November 11 became an official holiday in 1938 and was known as Armistice Day. This was originally for veterans in World War 1, but in 1954, after the second world war, they changed it to Veterans Day to honor all veterans.
It is important to  celebrate Veterans Day because we honor the veterans who died to save our country and especially the veterans who are still alive from the wars long ago. If we didn’t celebrate this day they may have gone unnoticed. But because the US knows how much these brave people did for our country like: they put their lives at risk, they got hurt but fought on, they tore themselves away from their families to save people they didn’t even know, the least we could do was give them a holiday. The men and women who fought should be known as selfless, brave, and strong leaders in our communities. Though many died and many managed to struggle through they shall all be idolized for the impact they made in our society.

Why Is It Important to Celebrate Veteran's Day?

By David Quill

It is important to celebrate Veterans day because we remember the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines who have fought for and protected our country. Some of them gave their lives or were injured for our country. And get this, my Dad is a Veteran and had to go through some rough times. He’s retired now but continues to work for his fellow veterans by planning this parade and putting American flags on Veterans graves on Memorial day. He also still serves by being a firefighter at the Winchester Fire Department. Dad has always taught my brother and I about America and why the military is so important and that we should respect the sacrifices Veterans made for us.  And that’s why Veterans Day is so important and,  no one does more than Veterans!

Parents,
Have you Ever Heard of The Growth Mindset, Effort-based Learning? How to GET Smart with hard work, effort, and taking feedback?! Ms. Duval, Grade 2, and Mr. Bellenoit, ITS collaborated on several lessons embedding technology that directly teaches students How to Get Smart!

Beginning this week, and throughout the school year, I will also be working with students and their teachers in the upper grades 3 - 5, to learn about how to cultivate a Growth Mindset and Effort-based Learning.

The book entitled, Mindset, by Carol Dweck is a terrific resource that provides valuable information about this important topic. I highly recommend this book.
