FYI

Self Defense for Kids

Join the fun this summer and learn from the Wellness teachers and Winchester Police about personal safety skills. You will learn drills that will emphasize muscle memory exercises and dynamic simulations in a multi-sensory rich environment. Using the radKIDS ( Resistance Strategies Against Abductions) curriculum we will encourage physical fitness and core life skills. This summer camp program will be offered to students entering grade 4 - entering grade 6.  We will meet 2 hours per day for 5 days.  It is a 10 hour camp total.

By empowering your children to receive  instruction  from nationally certified instructors, you are preparing them to replace fear, confusion and panic with confidence, personal safety and self-esteem.  Have your child grab a friend or sibling and sign up soon for one of the 4 sessions being offered.

Here are the times being offered:

Session 1  July 11-July 15  9 am-11 am
Session 2 July 11 - July 15 1 pm - 3 pm
Session 3 July 18July 22 9 am-11 am
Session 4 July 18-July 22 1 pm-3 pm

This year, the Newbery award went to a picture book, The Last Stop on Market Street by Matt La Pena.  Normally, this award is given to a chapter book with an audience of about grade 5 and up.  It's always interesting to see what the committee chooses, but one never knows the decision process.  Attached is a link to the author and his comments about the book if interested:

P.S. We have 2 copies in our school library.
